originalmente sob o nome The Jets.

Prúdy was a Slovak rock band originally
founded under the name The Jets.

STORY

The band was founded in 1962 under the name The Jets and was formed by: Pavol Hammel (guitar), Peter Saller (guitar), Vladimir Kaššay (bass) and František Machats (drums). The band was influenced by the popular wave of rock and roll. At first, the band played mostly cover versions of bands like Sputniks, The Shadows and Ventures.

In 1963, the band The Jets was renamed Prúdy, and to their repertoire were added songs by The Who and The Beatles. In 1964 the band started playing original songs, which were submitted by Rudolf Skukálek, poet, translator and later a member of the Slovak Radio lecturer group. That same year, the band recorded an instrumental song called "Šálka čaju" in Slovak Radio's studio. The following year, Jan Masaryk, son of writer Maria Ďuríčková, began working with the group as a lyricist.

In 1967, the Prúdy group performed on Milan Lasica and Július Satinsky, entitled "Večery pre dvoch" ("Night for two"). The band's drummer, František Machats, was replaced at the time by Peter Petro, a former member of Dež Ursíny's band The Beatmen and the student of music composition at the Bratislava Conservatory, pianist Marián Varga. Varga was originally invited to host a party for Massachusetts radio recording. The lyrics of the Prúdy group were written by Hammel's friends from the grammar school (at the time SVŠ - stredná všeobecnovzdelávacia škola [general secondary school]), Boris Filan and Kamil Peteraj, who were Varga's colleagues at the conservatory. In December of the same year, Prúdy attended the 1st Czechoslovak Beat Festival in Lucerne, Prague, and the group is released on a limited edition single featuring the songs "Poď so mnou", "Tam v Massachusetts" and "Spievam si pieseň".

In 1968, there were frequent changes in the band: Ľubomír Dolinský followed on drums, then Vladimir Mallý, and Fedor Frešo started playing bass (Frešo and Mallý came from The Soulmen). During this time, broadcasts recorded a collection of pre-arranged songs for Ivan Húščava's "Aleluja" film, and at the 2nd Czechoslovakian Festival in Prague, his song "Čierna ruža" became the festival's composition.

An important milestone in Prúdy's history is the release of the album "Zvoňte, zvonky" ("Ringing the bells") in 1969. In the summer of the same year, Hammel, Malý, Varga and Frešo recorded the album "Pokoj vám", which was officially released after the Zamatovej Revolúcii ("Velvet Revolution") in 1998. The songs from the albums "Zvoňte, zvonky" and "Pokoj vám" became part of the concert program "Pokoj vašim dušiam" ("Peace to your souls"), in 1969. In the same year Marián Varga, together with Dušan Hájek and Fedor Frešo, founds the art-rock group Collegium Musicum and, at the end of the year, Saller and Mallý leave Prúdy.
