Plus - The seven deadly sins - 1969 (Heavy Psychedelic Proto-Progressive Rock {UK})

The Electric Prunes, "Mass in F minor"). The dismissal: Twenty thousand people".

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

As Plus, brothers Mike (drums) and Tony (guitar) Newman and bassist Max Simms found an impressive mentor in the form of ex-Yardbirds's bassist/producer Simon Napier-Bell. Guitarist Tony Newman had been a member of The Jeff Beck Group which seeming brought him to the attention of Napier-Bell, who was an instrumental to the trio getting a recording deal with ABC's short-lived Probe subsidiary, debuting with a 1968 single: "Twenty thousand people/I'm talking as a friend" (Probe, catalog number 478)

In addition to co-producing 1969's "The seven deadly sins", Napier-Bell and Ray Singer were credited with co-writing roughly half the album: a goofy concept piece that essentially surrounded the seven deadly sins with an ever changing series of musical genres. The set seemed to be a clumsy effort to cash in on the public's interest in religion mixed with rock 'n' roll (as did The Electric Prunes's 1968 album, "Mass in F minor"). Thematically and lyrically the album is clearly linked via brief spoken intros and instrumental interludes. Musics such as "Gloria in excelsis: Toccata" and "The secrets: Devil's hymn" mixed classical influences with church choirs and progressive moves.  Elsewhere "Pride: Pride" and "Envy: I'm talking as a friend" offered up a startling pair of Badfinger-styled pop jewels, while "Avarice: Daddy's thing" is surprisingly funky and "Wrath: Gemegemera" is standard hard rock. The musicianship is actually quite impressive with the Mike Newman and Max Simms rhythm section generating quite a bit of energy on tracks like "The dismissal: Twenty thousand people". The liner notes didn't provide any information with respect to vocals, but whoever the lead singer was had a pretty interesting voice that was capable of handling everything from quasi-punk aggression ("Wrath: Gemegemera") to more commercial, Badfinger-styled pop.

Is needless to say, sales were far and few. The album was originally released with an embossed, gatefold cover. The trio never toured and without any significant sales to their credit, neither Napier-Bell nor Probe had any additional interest in Plus.

Mother Superior - Mother Superior - 1975 (Progressive Rock {UK})

Audrey Swinburne tenha sido considerada a líder oficial).

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Excellent album of this female group!
The girls made a record for an evening session at IBC Studios (London),
but only vinyl was released - in sparse copies and only in Sweden.
The album features a professionally performed band
with high-end song compositions and great polyphony
(all members of the band sang, although guitarist
Audrey Swinburne was considered the official leader).

At 3m42s of the song "Mood merchant" there is a riff that,
2 years later, would appear in Heart's smash hit "Barracuda".
Coincidental or not, the riff is exactly the same and in the same tone.
There is also a remake of The Beatles song "Lady Madonna",
presented in the untied style of the Broadway musical and,
in a way, it catches the eye.
The album was reissued in 1996 by the Audio Archives label.

Buldožer - Lik i djelo (8 CDs boxset) - 2006 (Avant-garde/ProgressivePsych/Blues/Pop/Hard/Rock {Eslovênia})

Buldožer é uma banda
de rock eslovena, fundada
na primavera de 1975, que
se apresentou em toda
a Iugoslávia.

Buldožer is a Slovenian
rock band, founded in the
spring of 1975, which has
performed in the whole
of Yugoslavia.

HISTORY

Buldožer was formed at the end of 1975 in Ljubljana, modern Slovenia, when avant-garde singer, songwriter Marko Brecelj joined the band Sedem Svetlobnih Let, led by guitarist and lead singer Boris Bele. The original composition included: Borut Cinc (keyboard, composer), Andrej Veble (bass), Uros Lovsin (lead guitar) and Stefan Jez (drums).

They released their debut album "Pljuni istini u oči" in December 1975. He was shocking and led to sharply negative reviews from public and musical business authorities, thanks to his twisted black humor filled with sarcasm, satire and affecting the "sensitive" problems of drugs and pornography. They also used Frank Zappa-style onstage to ridicule some generally accepted morality of the so-called socialist state of Yugoslavia. The cover of this album looked like a magazine sheet (similar to the Jethro Tull album "Stand up") filled with fun and funny social vignettes and some pornographic cartoons. After the first release of the album was sold out, the recording company PGP RTB refused to print more copies.

In 1976 they recorded the second album "Zabranjeno plakatirati", but due to the policy of prohibitions by the recording company RTB (the band had to change their lyrics if they wanted to release the record), it was released only in late 1977 when its switched to the label Helidon.

As long as the court was concerned, the rhythm section has changed, so bassist Vili Bertok and drummer Tone Dimnik participated in the studio sessions. Brecelj left the 1979 band to start a solo career. The leader of the group, Bele, has directed Buldožer towards punk-rock and new wave aesthetics, which has gained immense popularity in ex-Yugoslavia. New band members in this period were guitarists Davor Slamnig, Janez Zmazek and drummer Dusan Vran. The extremely "eclectic" studio album "Izlog jeftinih slatkiša" included the most popular radio hit "Žene i muškarci". This and the double live album "Ako ste slobodni večeras" achieved the highest sales of those years.

Along with working in a band, Bele also worked as chief musical editor for Helidon Records and was successful in this field. He acquired the copyright for their debut album from the label PGP RTB and released a re-release in 1981, which this time had positive reviews from critics. Their activities slowly faded away in the mid-1980s, after the weak album "Nevino srce".

Buldožer was the first group to release an album in CD format in Yugoslavia, not taking into account foreign publications - this was the 1989 compilation album "Novo vremena". Many of their song lyrics and stage performances are full of local meanings and difficult, understandable now in the post-Tito (socialist) period of Yugoslavia. But despite this, the first two albums "Pljuni istini u oči" and "Zabranjeno plakatirati" are essential for avant-prog listeners who like slightly psychedelic moments with a Hammond organ and "acid" guitar solos. Their lyrics and performance are completely anarchic. "Izlog jeftinih slatkiša" is a diverse collection of more accessible songs, from aggressive punk rock songs to pure psychedelic moments. The album "Noć" represents the updated band of the 1990s.
