Raw Material (Psychedelic Progresive Folk Rock {UK})

Raw Material

O guitarrista Greene formou a banda Shoot, com o baterista Craig Collinge, o baixista Bill Russell e o cantor e tecladista Jim McCarty. A banda lançou em 1973 o álbum "On the frontier" e o single "On the frontier/Ships and sales", ambos publicados pela EMI.

Raw Material was an English progressive rock band composed of Colin Catt (vocals, keyboards), Dave Greene (guitar), Phil Gunn (bass, guitar), Michael Fletcher (flute, sax, vocals) and Paul Young (drums).

The first publication on behalf of the band was in 1969, when Evolution Records released the single "Time and illusion/Bobo's party", followed by a second second single in 45 rpm format, "Hi there hallelujah/Days of the fighting cock", launched in January 1970.

"Time and illusion" and "Fighting cock" are later included in the debut album "Raw Material", also published in 1970. The band's proposal is progressive rock with jazz tones, typical of the time, with wind instruments made with wood in evidence. The A side of the disc includes three long pieces with a strong impact: "Time and illusion", with the long instrumental interlude and the presence of the vibraphone; "I'd be delighted", with the use of wind instruments in the Van der Graaf Generator style; "Fighting cock", with a smooth start and a growing ending. The parts included on side B are less successful.

In 1971, after an agreement signed with the specialized label Neon (distributed by RCA), Raw Material released its second album, "Time is...". The line-up was enriched by the presence of guitarist Cliff Harewood. On this album, the band features robust guitar riffs, prominent keyboards, acoustic tracks, a heavy jazz rhythm and the wind instruments used in the manner of Van der Graaf. In the same year, the band released the single "Ride on pony/Religion" (RCA Neon) and soon after it dissolved.

Guitarist Greene formed the band Shoot, with drummer Craig Collinge, bassist Bill Russell and singer and keyboardist Jim McCarty. In 1973 the band released the album "On the frontier" and the single "On the frontier/Ships and sales", both published by EMI. In August of the same year, Shoot recorded a radio session for John Peel with bassist Tim Postford and drummer Peter Woolf.
