Genfuoco - Dentro l'invisibile - 1979 (Progressive Rock {Itália})

Genfuoco's band was formed in the mid-1970s in Siena and released a nine-track tape, "Antichi confini", in 1976, and as part of the international Gen Christian movement, they were invited to play at a number of Genfest European festivals.

Genfuoco released this album in 1979 by religious label Città Nuova, which also produced bands with similar names such as Gen Verde and Gen Rosso. The following year the band broke up. The group met in 2000 with all the original members, playing in Florence, and releasing a live recording album from the late 70's. "Dentro l'invisibile" was reissued on CD by Mellow Records in 1992, but nowadays It is a rarity.

Genfuoco was a 6-member band, so there is a lot of variety in instrumentation, although the overall mood is soft and acoustic. The music combines folk, jazz and symphonic to good effect and features extensive instrumental passages, with vocals being used sparingly. Singer Marco Borgogni is not as flashy as some of his countrymen, but his voice fits the moderate nature of most of the album. The Italian bands Delirium and Il Volo are the most obvious influences.

The album begins with "Ouverture", an instrumental piece with two main movements, separated by a brief quick section. Both main movements are quite spacious and the second part features a quiet horn and sax duet. It's a nice introduction to the album and sets the mood for the songs that follow. The first one is "Della tana", which has a popular feel thanks to its captivating recorder motif, although it also has a curved double bass and a great line of synthesizers. Some songs are instantly memorable, while others, such as the structurally complex "Traspare", require multiple auditions to enjoy.
"Terra promessa", split into two parts, features the album's first upbeat moment with its cheerful flute melody, sparkling guitar and Latin percussion. "Galassie" is another track that highlights the inferior quality of the production with some intrusive vocal whistles. Fortunately, that doesn't stop her from being the best song in the ensemble, with her spatial introduction of sax and Solina/Mellotron giving way to carefree guitar and synth changes. The tender acoustic ballad "La serenata del fiume" and the Pink Floyd-inspired title track, which includes some female vocals in Clare Torry's vein, complete what is a great album. In a nutshell, one of the lesser-known RPI gems that is only slightly tarnished by some dishonest production.
