Slowbone (Heavy/Hard Blues Rock [UK])

Slowbone (1)

A banda lançou outro single, na época, pelo selo Rare Earth - "Hot California beach/Do you see me" - sob o nome de Rough Riders. Eles também foram a banda de apoio no single da Sonny and The Sovereigns, "School is out".

A banda Slowbone lançou alguns singles em 1974: "Tales of a crooked man/Got to know", no selo Tamla Motown e "Oh, man/Get what you're given" para a Rare Earth, mais a produção de Kenny Laguna, "Can I bring your love/The gateway", para a Polydor Records.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Slowbone was a band from the East End, England, formed by Barry Hart and Jeff Peters. Jeff Peters had been a member of the 1960s psychedelic rock band Turquoise, known for the pop classic "Tales of flossie fillet". The band released another single, at the time, on the Rare Earth label - "Hot California beach/Do you see me" - under the name Rough Riders. They were also the backing band on Sonny and The Sovereigns' single "School is out".

The band Slowbone released a few singles in 1974: "Tales of a crooked man/Got to know" on the Tamla Motown label and "Oh, man/Get what you're given" for Rare Earth, plus production by Kenny Laguna, "Can I bring your love/The gateway" for Polydor Records. The quartet prided themselves on having a very loyal audience, and they also had a big influence on Iron Maiden, who used to go to shows to see them. Various riffs used by Iron Maiden can be seen in the recording of "Live at the Greyhound". This recording was made live at the famous Greyhound, in Fulham Palace Road, during its heaviest phase, and the CD release includes 2 bonus cuts from a previous show, plus notes from the band's producer, David J. Burrows.

The most prominent member of the band was the multi-talented Lea Hart (then known as Barry Hart), who is known as an industrious figure on the British rock scene, having played roles as producer, singer, songwriter, manager and ambassador for British music internationally.

Lea Hart, along with bandmates Jeff Peters and Paul Airey (Don Airey's brother), then replaced original drummer Keith Shepherd with Rick Andreo to form the Roll Ups. This act soon ended, performing a "farewell" show at The Bridge in July 1978, but then came back advertised simply as Lea Hart. They then returned to using the Roll Ups name to release a single, "Blackmail", on the Bridgehouse label in 1979 and an album titled "Low dives for high balls" in the same year.

Lea Hart also supported Judas Priest on his 1979 British tour "Killing machine" with the group that featured members of Slowbone and Roll Ups - bassist Jeff Peters, drummer Rick Andreo and keyboardist Paul Airey. An album was recorded but never released.

Lea Hart also anonymously released a single as Small Ads, working with her former colleague and UK Subs member, drummer Kim Wylie, in April 1981. Lea Hart's next step was to join ex-Bay City Rollers, Ian Mitchell, in La Rox, performing on the single "Can I bring you love", before disbanding in 1982. Lea then formed the Lea Hart Band which evolved into Ya Ya. Lea Hart appeared on the 1984 album "Scarred" but dropped out of Ya Ya before her second album.

He later teamed up with former Motörhead "Fast" Eddie Clarke's Fastway as vocalist, replacing Dave King, and released two albums with the band. As a member of Fastway, Lea was busy promoting British bands in the former Soviet Union. In fact, he also produced the First Strike demo in London in 1989. Further, Hart would lend his vocal talents in sessions on Japanese group Air Pavilion's "Kaizoku" album.

Lea Hart has appeared on several renowned rock albums as a backing vocalist or guitarist, including Joan Jett's "Bad reputation", Bad Company's "Holy water", Giant's "Last of the runaways" and Foreigner's "Unusual heat". In 1988 Lea found herself forming the True Brits alongside former Iron Maiden guitarist Dennis Stratton and drummer Clive Burr for an album released in Japan.

Lea's 1991 solo album "Trapped" was released only in Japan. The album featured notable figures such as drummer Gary Ferguson of Gary Moore's band, Thin Lizzy's guitarist Scott Gorham, Nibbs Carter of Saxon, Biff Byford, Nigel Glockler, former Iron Maiden Dennis Stratton and Paul Di'Anno, Tino Troy of Praying Mantis and Paul Samson.

1994's "Ready to rumble" was released in Europe and the album once again featured associates: Ferguson and Carter, guitarists Ray Callcut and Dave Senczak.

The versatile Hart showed his hand once again in 1997, producing and co-writing the solo album of the ex-Girlschool band vocalist Jackie Bodimead, "Don't believe in love".

The 1990s saw Hart morph into a one-man tribute industry, having oversaw the production of several tribute albums for names like Iron MaidenThin LizzyZZ TopUFONazareth and Whitesnake. Lea Hart also served as manager of Paul Di'Anno.
