Ursa Major - Ursa Major - 1972 (Hard Rock {US})

Ursa Major is an underrated and forgotten New York band that released just one single album in the early 70's. This power-trio, led by talented guitarist, vocalist and sessionman Dick Wagner (The Frost, Alice Cooper, Lou Reed), featured hard rock that occasionally bordered on metal, but also included striking acoustic tracks. As quickly as Ursa Major appeared on the scene, the trio broke up after touring with Jeff Beck and Alice Cooper, and Wagner began working with Lou Reed the following year.

This album is well known among rarity prospectors, so there's not much to talk about. It's good from start to finish, but I highlight the two ballads "In my darkest hour" and "Liberty and justice" for those who don't know yet.

Unfortunately the CD reissue came with this colorful and subtitled cover "Metal Works: Headbangers series("Headbangers" ... seriously this?) and a booklet that doesn't add much, although one of the pages has the band's story told by Mark Marymont. It would be better if there was reissue with the original cover.
