Mud - Mud - 1971 (Heavy Psychedelic Rock [US])

(Heavy Psychedelic Rock [US])

"Mud on Mudd" lançado em 1970.
Mudd se saiu melhor em suas próprias
músicas, especialmente “If we try
roteirista).
No segundo álbum, “Mud
(abaixo um d), a banda não
regrediu nem progrediu.

Originally called Mudd,
(probably to distinguish themselves
from Mud, an English band that had been
around since 1966 and finally enjoyed a
spell of success once they teamed up with
glam rock producers Nicky Chinn & Mike
Chapman), this was Albuquerque's
first rock super group.

The band was formed by Steve (Miller)
D'Coda (lead guitar), Arnold Bodmer
(keyboards), Chuck Klingbeil (keyboards,
sax), Vic Gabriele (bass) and Randy Castillo
(drums).  Each one was the best at his
instrument on the local scene.
And with Tommy G on lead vocals...
there is no need to say anything else.
Mudd signed on with Al Klein's Buffalo Bill Productions,  who in turn secured a recording
contract with Uni Records for the band.

This resulted in two albums. The first,
"Mud on Mudd", released in 1970.
Mudd did fare better on their own songs,
especially “If we try” (a Vic Gabrielle
composition and one of many that Al Klein
latched onto as co-writer) “Mud on Mudd
wasn't ground breaking by any means, but it
did provide an avenue for Tommy G to make a smooth transition into rock music. On the second album, “Mud” (down one d), the band
neither regressed nor progressed.

Melissa - Midnight trampoline - 1971 (Progressive Folk Rock {Austrália})

Melissa (band photo)

Ele já tocou com muitos artistas australianos notáveis, incluindo Billy T, Mark Gillespie, Pseudo Echo, The Black Sorrows, Vanette Fields, Ian Moss & The John Farnham Band e The Revelators.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Melissa was a band formed in Sydney, in 1969, under the name of Molten Hue. The original line up was Robert Gunn (flute, vocal), Rick Barrett (guitar) Ken Frazier (bass) and Warren "Wal" Sparkes (drums), but Irish bassist Joe Creighton (who was previously a member of British band The A-Side) replaced Frazier not long after the band was formed. Melissa started playing psychedelia and acid-rock, and they were one of the first Australian bands to play "American West Coast" rock, such as Jefferson Airplane, Country Joe and The Fish or The Steve Miller Band.

The group's only album, "Midnight trampoline", was recorded for a period of nine months in 1971 and was released in October on Banner's independent label. Unfortunately, the album sank without a trace at the release, but over the years earned it the reputation of one of the best Australian rock albums of the period and became the most sought after collector item. Melissa had a strong participation in the Sydney suburban dance circuit and they performed with great artists such as Tully & Mecca in underground events and shows at venues such as Paddington Town Hall and the Arts Factory in Darlinghurst.

One of the highlights of the group's brief career was a Sidney tour with Elton John in October 1971. At this point, however, the internal tensions that emerged during the LP recording were about to split the band, with Creighton and Gunn being replaced by Chris Keystone and Ken Hanley, as well as a new keyboardist, Glen Farley. Melissa continued acting until 1972, but ended later that year. Fortunately, Melissa's recordings were among the OzRock relics of the early '70s, selected to be reissued by Vicious Sloth Collectibles.

The most notable member of the group is Joe Creighton, who has long been one of Australia's most respected and sought-after bassists. He has played with many notable Australian artists including Billy T, Mark Gillespie, Pseudo Echo, The Black Sorrows, Vanette Fields, Ian Moss & The John Farnham Band and The Revelators. He toured with Tim Finn and led his own Joe Creighton Band in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Joe's remarkable list of credits includes the soundtrack of Oz, Jane Conway, Pat Wilson, Australian Crawl, Hunters & Collectors, Sharon O'Neill, the duet of Wendy Matthews/Kate Ceberano, Greg Champion, Marc Hunter and Jenny Morris.

Aigues Vives - Water of seasons - 1981 (Krautrock/Progressive Folk Rock {Alemanha})

Aigues Vives - Water of seasons - 1981

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Named after a French city, whose name in turn refers to "prosperous fountain/fountain", Aigues Vives was formed in 1971 in the part of Germany near the Belgian border. Initially, they were mainly influenced by the progressive rock of their day, but various purges and reforms turned them into a mostly acoustic folk group with lots of progressive touches. Not sounding particularly German, they still have some comparison to Höelderlin, Bröselmaschine and Emtidi.

It was the third incarnation that finally made a recording. "Water of seasons" is a fascinating and mind-blowing yet deep-rooted record that appeals to a wide spectrum of progressive folk, psychedelic and progressive German fans. It was released in a limited edition of 1000 copies and commands a healthy price among collectors.

After yet another lineup change, the group reunited to record a rock with medieval folk influences on a cassette tape ("Dwarfs casting long shadows"), with the aim of presage a second LP that never materialized.

In 2004, both LP and cassette were packaged together by the Garden of Delights label on the "Water of seasons" CD, which remains available and worthy of a wider audience.
