A Svanfrídur foi formada em 1972 pelo ex-vocalista e tecladista da Náttúra, Petur Wigelund Kristjansson, pelo guitarrista Birgir Hrafnsson, pelo baixista Gunnar Hermannsson e pelo baterista Sigurdur Karlsson. Eles viajaram pela Islândia para vários shows ao vivo, incluindo também duas viagens para as Ilhas Faroe, mas não conseguiram um contrato em um selo apropriado. Ainda assim, eles viajaram para Londres e gravaram seu único álbum "What's hidden there?", no Majestic Studios. O álbum foi prensado lá, mas lançado apenas na Islândia no final do ano de 1972.

Svanfrídur was formed in 1972 by former Náttúra vocalist and keyboardist Petur Wigelund Kristjansson, guitarist Birgir Hrafnsson, bassist Gunnar Hermannsson and drummer Sigurdur Karlsson. They toured Iceland for several live shows, also including two trips to the Faroe Islands, but failed to secure a deal on an appropriate label. Still, they traveled to London and recorded their only album "What's hidden there?", at Majestic Studios. The album was pressed there, but only released in Iceland in late 1972.
The album only sold a few hundred copies, leading the band to a decision to disband in the mid-73s, even when veteran guitarist Bjorrgvin Gislason (also from Náttúra) joined them. Kristjansson and Gislason formed Pelican, and two years later Kristjansson and bassist Gunnar Hermannsson formed Paradis. Birgir Hrafnsson and Sigurdur Karlsson formed the rock band Change.
