Franklin - Life circle [1971-1975] - 2009 (Heavy Psych/Space Progressive Rock {Espanha})

Pérola obscura vinda de Madrid, capital da Espanha. O grupo Franklin foi formado no final dos anos 60 pelos guitarristas Pablo Weeber e Antonio García e teve duas fases distintas, a primeira entre 1971 e 1973, lançando na época dois compactos e se desfazendo ainda em 1973. Felizmente no ano seguinte Weeber reforma a banda, com troca total de músicos e mudança no som, gravando um LP em 1975, mas que por problemas com a gravadora não foi lançado na época. Se separaram definitivamente em 1976 e após 31 anos todo o material volta a vida pelo selo Cocodrilo, em formato LP e apenas 500 cópias. Aqui apresentamos a reedição da Bela Records, lançada em 2009 e não inclusa no site Discogs.

A coletânea "Life circle" é dividida em duas partes distintas, a primeira fase no começo dos anos 70, ocupando as 6 faixas iniciais do álbum misturam psych/prog com hard rock típico da época e pegadas arrasadoras de guitarra, órgão e bateria, com covers de "Satisfaction", "Border song" e "Don't let it bring you down" e gravação precária. A partir da sétima música ("Beginning") o som é muito diferente, quase irreconhecível em comparação as primeiras, trazendo progressivo sinfônico e space rock próximo da Canarios. Longos e viajantes solos instrumentais dominados por minimoog, mellotron e guitarra predominam, mostrando qualidade dos músicos, ainda ouvimos momentos de vocais em inglês.

Uma ótima surpresa que pode agradar tanto fãs de heavy psych/prog setentista quanto prog sinfônico.

obs.: Alguns títulos estão escritos de forma diferente nesta versão da Bela Records (que, creio eu, seja uma versão não-oficial da coletânea): "Soft landing" aqui aparece como "Sofa landing"; "Dies irae" (partes 1 e 2) aqui aparecem como "Diestraf"; e "Caos-desconstruction" como "Caos-descompensing".

The group Franklin was formed in Madrid, capital of Spain, in the late 60s by guitarist Pablo Weeber and Antonio García and had two distinct phases, the first from 1971 to 1973, releasing two singles at time and disbanding still in 1973. Fortunately the following year Weeber reform the band, with full exchange of musicians, recording an LP in 1975, but by problems with the record company it didn't come out at the time. They definitely separated in 1976 and after 31 years all the material came back to life by the label Cocodrilo, in LP format and with only 500 copies. Here we present the reissue of Bela Records, released in 2009 and not included in the Discogs website.

The collection "Life circle" is divided into two distinct parts, the first phase in the early '70s, being the 1-6 tracks, mixing psych/prog with great hard rock guitar, organ and drums, typical of the time, with covers of "Satisfaction", "Border song" and "Do not let it bring you down". From the seventh song ("Beginning") the sound is very different, almost unrecognizable compared to the first part, bringing progressive symphonic close to Canarios. Long and spacey instrumental solos dominated by minimoog,mellotron and guitar, showing quality of the musicians, we still hear moments of vocals in English.

A great surprise that can please both fans of heavy psych/prog as symphonic prog. Highly recommended!
