Pythagoras (Symphonic/Space/Electronic/Progressive Rock {Países Baixos})

Pythagoras tinha raízes em uma loja de discos holandesa chamada Moonlight Records, em Haia, no final dos anos setenta. O dono era o baterista Bob de Jong, ele tocou em bandas como Key, Pine-Apple e também foi baterista de estúdio do selo holandês Phonogram. Um dos visitantes frequentes da Moonlight Records era o tecladista René de Haan, que contou sobre seus planos de fazer música de sintetizador. Seu quarto, na casa de seus pais, era cheio de equipamentos musicais como o sintetizador Korg MS 20 e Trilogy, um piano digital Roland, um conjunto de cordas Solina e um sequenciador digital Firstman 1024.

O "veterano musical" Bob tinha certeza sobre as idéias de René aos 19 anos e isso levou ao lançamento do álbum "Journey to the vast unknown" em 1981, uma prensagem privada de 500 cópias. Bob enviou alguns LPs promocionais para alguns DJs conhecidos como Wim Van Putten, Skip Voogd e Frits Spits. Em muito pouco tempo, a caixa de correio de Bob foi inundada com cartas de fãs de sintetizadores. Eles reagiram ao endereço de contato que os DJs mencionaram em seus programas de rádio. O álbum foi relançado algumas vezes e eventualmente vendeu cerca de 5.000 cópias, um resultado incrível para uma prensagem privada feita por uma dupla holandesa desconhecida tocando música de sintetizador.

Em 1982, Pythagoras lançou seu segundo LP intitulado "After the silence". Neste álbum, a música está mais próxima do progressivo sinfônico, devido ao uso de um Mellotron de René e das contribuições de uma ampla gama de músicos convidados: Nick Blaser (violino), Martin Knaap (baixo), Carolien Krul (flauta), Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon) nos pedais de guitarra/baixo e Michel Van Wassem (Plackband) no Novotron.

A gravadora WEA providenciou a distribuição, e logo as 500 cópias se esgotaram. A WEA pediu a opção de fazer um terceiro LP da Pythagoras. Este álbum contaria com a participação de Pieter Courtens. Porém, este disco não foi lançado na época. Pythagoras se separou e Bob e René seguiram seus próprios caminhos. René tocou com Cloud Nine e depois foi para a Art Academy, ele conseguiu se tornar pintor e designer gráfico (ele desenhou as capas para a banda holandesa Sjako). Entre 1991 e 1996 ingressou na banda The Blue Man Can.

Em 2011, uma caixa de compilação "The Correlated ABC" foi lançada com as músicas inéditas que seriam do terceiro álbum da banda. Pieter Courtens morreu em 5 de fevereiro de 2000. Bob de Jong em 7 de dezembro de 2011.

Pythagoras was rooted in a Dutch record store called Moonlight Records in The Hague in the late seventies. The owner was drummer Bob de Jong, he played in bands like Key, Pine-Apple and was also a studio drummer for the Dutch label Phonogram. One of Moonlight Records' frequent visitors was keyboardist René de Haan, who spoke about his plans to make synthesizer music. His room, in his parents' house, was full of musical equipment such as the Korg MS 20 and Trilogy synthesizer, a Roland digital piano, a Solina string set and a Firstman 1024 digital sequencer.

The "music veteran" Bob was sure about René's ideas at age 19 and this led to the release of the album "Journey to the vast unknown" in 1981, a private pressing of 500 copies. Bob sent some promotional LPs to some well-known DJs like Wim Van Putten, Skip Voogd and Frits Spits. In a very short time, Bob's mailbox was flooded with letters from synthesizer fans. They responded to the contact address that the DJs mentioned on their radio programs. The album was re-released a few times and eventually sold around 5,000 copies, an incredible result for a private pressing by an unknown Dutch duo playing synthesizer music.

In 1982, Pythagoras released his second LP entitled "After the silence". In this album, the music is closer to the symphonic progressive, due to the use of a René' Mellotron and the contributions of a wide range of invited musicians: Nick Blaser (violin), Martin Knaap (bass), Carolien Krul (flute), Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon) on the guitar/bass pedals and Michel Van Wassem (Plackband) on Novotron.

The label WEA arranged for the distribution, and soon the 500 copies were sold out. WEA asked for the option of making a third Pythagoras LP. This album would feature Pieter Courtens. However, this record was not released at the time. Pythagoras broke up and Bob and René went their own way. René played with Cloud Nine and then went to Art Academy, he managed to become a painter and graphic designer (he designed the covers for the Dutch band Sjako). Between 1991 and 1996 he joined the band The Blue Man Can.

In 2011, a compilation box "The Correlated ABC" was released with new songs that would be from the band's third album. Pieter Courtens died on February 5, 2000. Bob de Jong on December 7, 2011.
