Eden Rose, anteriormente Les Gardians,
foi uma banda de rock francesa.
HISTÓRIA
O grupo foi formado em 1969 com Henri Garella (tecladista), Christian Clairefond (baixista) e Henry Castello (baterista). Os três integrantes da Eden Rose fizeram a primeira parte das viagens de Claude François, em 1965, dentro do grupo Les Gardians. Foram o ato de abertura para outros artistas da época e depois acompanharam cantores como Guy Mardel, Hervé Vilard e Michelle Torr. Em Marselha, eles tocam na Les Golden Ballroom Orchestra. A conselho do diretor artístico da Katema (um pequeno selo dirigido por um fabricante de eletrodomésticos, um grande amante da música), eles decidem em conjunto mudar o nome. Então, o baterista Henry Castello sugere o nome Eden Rose.
A gravação de "On the way to Eden" começou em março de 1970. Este álbum foi gravado de forma muito espontânea, ao vivo, em um estúdio localizado em Paris. A música aqui revelada assemelha-se a um blues rock instrumental típico da época, feito de longos desenvolvimentos centrados principalmente nos sons do órgão Hammond mas já fortemente marcados pelas influências do rock progressivo. Porém, as relações com o produtor se deterioraram, a ponto de os músicos nem participarem da mixagem de seu próprio disco. O álbum apareceu em 1970, no rótulo Katema, com distribuição da Sonopress.
O grupo faz turnê pela França e parte por um tempo para se apresentar em um clube de Oran, Argélia. Nenhuma indicação, nem royalties, foi fornecida aos músicos quanto aos resultados das vendas de "On the way to Eden". A faixa "Travelling" até chegou a ser usada como um indicativo de chamada para um programa de televisão da época. Algum tempo depois, o grupo decide seguir caminhos separados.
PÓS-SEPARAÇÃO
Com isso, Henry Castello, a pedido de Jacques Dutronc, se separa do grupo para fazer turnê com ele. E lá ficou por quatro anos, para então acompanhar por cinco anos o cantor Michel Sardou e ao mesmo tempo sendo acompanhante de: Carlos, Palaprat, Michel Jonasz, Michel Delpech, Christian Delagrange, Charles Aznavour e Nancy Holloway. Ele também foi o baterista da orquestra do famoso musical de Eric Charden, "Mayflowers". Alguns jazzistas incluindo Hammer, Waldron e Willy Mabon usaram o clube de jazz Le Bilboquet para estabilizar o baterista, por quase dez anos, na prestigiosa orquestra Moulin Rouge.
Os dois amigos restantes entraram em contato com o baterista Michel Jullien, também de Marselha, e com o famoso violonista Jean-Pierre Alarcen, que na época era conhecido como um dos mais talentosos violonistas de sua geração, tendo notadamente colaborado com o popular cantor Jacques Dutronc e Système Crapoutchik.
No entanto, decidiram, um pouco mais tarde, formar a banda Sandrose mantendo a mesma formação e contratando a cantora Rose Podwojny, mais conhecida pelo nome de Rose Laurens. O grupo se tornou uma das formações francesas de rock progressivo mais populares da década de 1970. Depois da Sandrose, os músicos trabalharam ao lado de celebridades como France Gall, Joséphine Baker, Gilbert Bécaud, Sacha Distel e Michel Petrucciani.
Em 2003, Musea relançou o álbum "On the way to Eden". Em 2006, a gravadora francesa Sausage Records relançou duas canções do álbum "On the way to Eden" em 45 rpm - "Faster and faster" e "Feeling in the living".
SANDROSE
Com o fim da Eden Rose em 1970, a Sandrose foi formada. Foi durante um concerto com a sua orquestra Les Golden no Casino d'Ajaccio que Christian Clairefond, Henri Garella e Michel Jullien foram convidados por Alarcen para formar o grupo. Jean-Pierre Alarcen, que antes era um músico convidado, agora torna-se o membro fundador.
O grupo lançou um único álbum, simplesmente intitulado "Sandrose", em abril de 1972. O álbum é dividido entre canções em que aparece a poderosa voz de Rose Podwojny (cantando em inglês), que fez carreira alguns anos depois com o nome de Rose Laurens e compondo também peças instrumentais.
O grupo se separou após alguns shows no Gibus (um clube parisiense) de 27 de novembro a 7 de dezembro de 1972 devido a diferenças pessoais e musicais. Após a separação do grupo, Rose Podwojny - agora Rose Laurens - obteve sucesso mundial com o álbum "Africa" em 1982, com mais de um milhão de cópias vendidas somente na França. Ela morreu em 2018.

STORY
The group was formed in 1969 with Henri Garella (keyboard), Christian Clairefond (bass) and Henry Castello (drums). The three members of Eden Rose made the first part of Claude François' trips, in 1965, within the group Les Gardians. They were the opening act for other artists of the time and then accompanied singers such as Guy Mardel, Hervé Vilard and Michelle Torr. In Marseilles, they play in the Les Golden Ballroom Orchestra. On the advice of the artistic director of Katema (a small label run by an appliance manufacturer, a big music lover), they jointly decide to change the name. Then drummer Henry Castello suggests the name Eden Rose.
The recording of "On the way to Eden" started in March 1970. This album was recorded very spontaneously, live, in a studio located in Paris. The music revealed here resembles a typical instrumental blues rock of the time, made up of long developments centered mainly on the sounds of the Hammond organ but already strongly marked by progressive rock influences. However, relations with the producer deteriorated, to the point where the musicians didn't even participate in the mixing of their own record. The album appeared in 1970, on the Katema label, with distribution by Sonopress.
The group tours France and leaves for a while to perform at a club in Oran, Algeria. No indications, nor royalties, were given to the musicians as to the results of sales of "On the way to Eden". The track "Travelling" was even used as a call sign for a television show at the time. Some time later, the group decides to go their separate ways.
POST-SEPARATION
With this, Henry Castello, at the request of Jacques Dutronc, separates from the group to tour with him. And there he stayed for four years, to then accompany the singer Michel Sardou for five years and at the same time be accompanying: Carlos, Palaprat, Michel Jonasz, Michel Delpech, Christian Delagrange, Charles Aznavour and Nancy Holloway. He was also the orchestra drummer for Eric Charden's famous musical "Mayflowers". Some jazz players including Hammer, Waldron and Willy Mabon used the Le Bilboquet jazz club to stabilize the drummer, for nearly ten years, in the prestigious Moulin Rouge orchestra.
The two remaining friends came into contact with drummer Michel Jullien, also from Marseille, and famous guitarist Jean-Pierre Alarcen, who at the time was known as one of the most talented guitarists of his generation, having notably collaborated with popular singer Jacques Dutronc and Système Crapoutchik.
However, they decided, a little later, to form the band Sandrose keeping the same lineup and hiring the singer Rose Podwojny, better known by the name of Rose Laurens. The group became one of the most popular French progressive rock formations of the 1970s. After Sandrose, the musicians worked alongside celebrities such as France Gall, Joséphine Baker, Gilbert Bécaud, Sacha Distel and Michel Petrucciani.
In 2003, Musea re-released the album "On the way to Eden". In 2006, French label Sausage Records re-released two songs from the album "On the way to Eden" at 45 rpm - "Faster and faster"and "Feeling in the living".
SANDROSE
With the end of Eden Rose in 1970, Sandrose was formed. It was during a concert with his orchestra Les Golden at the Casino d'Ajaccio that Christian Clairefond, Henri Garella and Michel Jullien were invited by Alarcen to form the group. Jean-Pierre Alarcen, who was previously a guest musician, now becomes the founding member.
The group released a single album, simply entitled "Sandrose", in April 1972. The album is divided into songs featuring the powerful voice of Rose Podwojny (singing in English), who made a career a few years later under the name Rose Laurens and also composing instrumental pieces.
The group broke up after a few shows at Gibus (a Parisian club) from November 27th to December 7, 1972 due to personal and musical differences. After the group split, Rose Podwojny - now Rose Laurens - achieved worldwide success with the album "Africa" in 1982, with more than a million copies sold in France alone. She died in 2018.
