Sunday foi uma banda de hard progressive rock formada por Jimmy Forest (piano, órgão, vocal), John Barclay (guitarra, vocal) e Davy Patterson (vocal, baixo). Sunday é originária de Glasgow, Escócia e, tendo se mudado para Londres, a banda gravou o seu primeiro e único LP, auto-intitulado e que foi lançado apenas na Alemanha pela selo Bellaphon (Bellaphon - BLPS 19066) em 1971. A capa do álbum retrata uma pintura de Lyonel Feininger. O baterista, Pete Gavin, havia anteriormente tocado na banda Jody Grind.

A banda provavelmente separou-se após o lançamento do álbum. Não se tem muitas informações sobre estes caras, mas eles deixaram um registro interessante que, por vezes, é comparado ao início de bandas como Deep Purple, Rare Bird, Santana, Procol Harum, Atomic Rooster e Argent. Pete Gavin depois juntou-se à Heads, Hands & Feet.

No encarte do álbum há um texto escrito no idioma Alemão, que traz algumas frases que teriam sido ditas pelos membros do grupo. Em minha péssima tradução algumas das frases seriam assim:

Davy tem 19 anos e canta como em mil noites enevoadas de outono: "Começamos há cerca de dois anos em Glasgow, onde todos moramos, e tocamos no Top Ten de um lado para o outro. E como tudo correu muito bem, pensamos que seria uma boa coisa para fazer depois da escola. Tocamos em todos os lugares e ofertas vieram de todo o país. Foi a melhor coisa para se tornar um profissional. Uma vida maravilhosa!"

James também tem 19 anos. Ele toca "Bye, bye blackbird" quase perfeitamente no órgão - honestamente: "A vida assim não é tão fácil quanto parece, me deixa incrivelmente nervoso. Já fiz grandes coisas antes, mas isto... nunca dormi antes das duas da manhã, ou levantei às dez para praticar e às cinco para os shows. Passo 30% da minha vida viajando para todos os tipos de lugares duvidosos".

John Barclay tem 20 anos e uma peculiaridade: ele sempre deixa bigodes, que ele raspa imediatamente - ele é tão sensível. Ele descobriu recentemente que pode cantar uma harmonia perfumada: "Deixei um emprego nobre para me tornar profissional. Se devo me arrepender ou não - não sei! Eu meio que gosto disso, e mesmo se fôssemos o maior fracasso, por que não? Você é jovem apenas uma vez".

Pete Gavin, baterista e amigo, ajudou no disco - ele agora está com Heads, Hands & Feet e Forlove. Ele tem 18 anos e é de Newcastle. Ele acha que poderia tocar ainda melhor se alguém não continuasse roubando sua bateria: "Comecei a tocar há 18 meses; não é muito tempo quando você considera os veteranos do pop que estão no ramo há mais de dez anos. Você só precisa tocar e tocar... Ainda estou um pouco tenso. Mas, eu gosto da minha vida! Bem, e você conhece mil mulheres, não é?".

Sunday was a hard progressive rock band consisting of Jimmy Forest (piano, organ, vocals), John Barclay (guitar, vocals) and Davy Patterson (vocals, bass). Sunday hails from Glasgow, Scotland and, having moved to London, the band recorded their first and only LP, self-titled and which was released only in Germany on the Bellaphon label (Bellaphon - BLPS 19066) in 1971. The cover art from the album depicts a painting by Lyonel Feininger. The drummer, Pete Gavin, had previously played in the band Jody Grind.

The band likely broke up after the album's release. Not much information is available about these guys, but they left an interesting record that is sometimes compared to the beginning of bands like Deep Purple, Rare Bird, Santana, Procol Harum, Atomic Rooster and Argent. Pete Gavin later joined Heads, Hands & Feet.

In the booklet of the album there is a text written in the German language, which brings some phrases that would have been said by the members of the group. In my bad translation some of the sentences would be like this:

Davy is 19 and sings like a thousand misty autumn evenings: "We started about two years ago in Glasgow, where we all live, and we played the Top Ten back and forth. And because it went really well, we thought it might be a good thing to do after school. We played everywhere, and offers came pouring in from all over the country - it was the best thing to become a professional - a wonderful life!"

James is also 19. He plays "Bye, bye, blackbird" almost flawlessly on the organ - honestly: "Life like that isn't as easy as it looks, it makes me incredibly nervous. I've done great things before, but such... never to bed before two in the morning, get up at ten to practice, and five off to the gigs. I spend 30% of my life traveling to all kinds of dodgy places".

John Barclay is 20 and has a quirk: he always leaves mustaches, which he shaves off immediately - he's just so sensitive. He recently discovered that he can sing fragrant harmony: "I left a noble job to go pro. Whether I should regret it or not - I don't know! I kind of enjoy it, and even if we were the biggest failure, why not? You're only young once".

Pete Gavin, drummer and friend, helped out on the record - he's now with Heads, Hands & Feet and Forlove. He's 18 and from Newcastle. He thinks he could play even better if someone didn't keep stealing his drums: "I started playing 18 months ago; that's not long when you consider the pop veterans who have been in the business for more than ten years. You just have to play and play.... I'm still a little uptight. But, I like my life! Well, and you get to know a thousand women, isn't it?".
