Dancer - Tales of the riverbank - 1972 (Progressive Folk Rock {UK})

Dancer foi formada a partir de resquícios do grupo de folk rock da Ilha de Wight, Shide & Acorn, e do futuro famoso diretor e roteirista Anthony Minghella, vencedor do Oscar pelo filme "O paciente inglês" (1996). Minghella já havia aparecido como tecladista em um pequeno grupo de jazz conhecido como Earthlight.

Os músicos foram descobertos por Wilf Pine, ex-gerente da Black Sabbath e futuro membro do ranking do sindicato da máfia Gotti nos Estados Unidos. Pine garantiu o tempo de estúdio do grupo no Olympia, no subúrbio de Barnes, em Londres, em 1972, onde gravaram sete faixas ao longo de um mês sob a direção do guitarrista da Groundhogs, Tony McPhee. McPhee, apesar de ter um braço engessado, ofereceu-se para gravar o solo de guitarra da faixa-título. Dancer separou-se logo depois e suas gravações permaneceram esquecidas até que cópias surgiram quase trinta anos depois e foram lançadas pelo selo Kissing Spell.

Anthony Minghella seguiu uma longa e bem-sucedida carreira como produtor de cinema, vindo a falecer em 18 de março de 2008, devido a complicações após uma cirurgia para remover um tumor cancerígeno da garganta. Paul Athey e Mike Cuffe formaram a banda funk Big Swifty.

Dancer was formed from the remnants of the Isle of Wight folk rock group Shide & Acorn and the future famous director and screenwriter Anthony Minghella, Oscar winner for the film "The English Patient" (1996). Minghella had previously appeared as a keyboard player in a small jazz group known as Earthlight.

The musicians were discovered by Wilf Pine, former manager of Black Sabbath and future ranking member of the Gotti mafia syndicate in the United States. Pine secured the group's studio time at Olympia in the London suburb of Barnes in 1972, where they recorded seven tracks over the course of a month under the direction of Groundhogs guitarist Tony McPhee. McPhee, despite having an arm in a cast, offered to record the title track's guitar solo. Dancer disbanded soon after and his recordings remained forgotten until copies appeared nearly thirty years later and were released on the Kissing Spell label.

Anthony Minghella has followed a long and successful career as a film producer, passing away on March 18, 2008, from complications following surgery to remove a cancerous tumor in his throat. Paul Athey and Mike Cuffe formed the funk band Big Swifty.
