Moto Perpétuo foi uma banda brasileira de rock
progressivo que esteve em atividade de 1973 até 1975.
O grupo ficou conhecido por ter revelado o cantor,
compositor e pianista brasileiro Guilherme Arantes.
Lançou um único álbum autointitulado que, após
sucessivos relançamentos nas décadas seguintes,
tornou-se um clássico cult.
HISTÓRIA
Em 1970, Guilherme Arantes foi assistir a peça Plug, produzida pelo seu primo Solano Ribeiro no Teatro Ruth Escobar e conheceu Diógenes Burani. Em pouco tempo, Guilherme (teclados), Diógenes (bateria e percussão) e Rodolfo Grani Júnior (baixo) estariam acompanhando Jorge Mautner em shows por São Paulo. Quando entrou na Faculdade de Arquitetura e Urbanismo da Universidade de São Paulo, Guilherme conheceu outro músico: Cláudio Lucci. Quando Guilherme apresentou seus dois amigos - Diógenes e Cláudio - um ao outro, os três resolveram montar uma banda. Diógenes, por sua vez, tinha participado de um "embrião" do grupo que Rita Lee tentava montar com sua amiga Lucinha Turnbull, após a saída de Rita Lee da Os Mutantes, que se chamava Cilibrinas do Éden. Deste projeto, Diógenes havia conhecido Gerson Tatini (baixo) e Egídio Conde (guitarra), sugerindo seus nomes a Guilherme e Cláudio.
Um tempo depois da formação do grupo, a banda chama a atenção de Moracy do Val, jornalista e produtor do álbum de estréia da Secos & Molhados, que começa a trabalhar na promoção da banda, conseguindo um contrato com a gravadora GEL para o lançamento de um álbum de estúdio pelo selo Continental - mesma gravadora do grupo de Ney Matogrosso, João Ricardo e Gérson Conrad. Assim, em setembro e outubro de 1974 gravam - no Estúdio Sonima, em São Paulo - o seu álbum de estréia, "Moto Perpétuo", produzido por Pena Schmidt e lançado em 11 de novembro de 1974 com uma apresentação no Theatro Treze de Maio. A sonoridade é notadamente influenciada pela Clube da Esquina - muito em voga na época - e por famosas bandas de rock progressivo como Genesis, Yes, Emerson, Lake & Palmer e as bandas italianas Le Orme e Premiata Forneria Marconi.
Alguns meses mais tarde, o grupo acabaria por divergências internas, com Guilherme Arantes querendo se afastar daquela sonoridade progressiva que ele considerava "elitista".
Em 1981, três dos membros da Moto Perpétuo - Cláudio Lucci, Gerson Tatini e Diógenes Burani - se reuniram com a vocalista e violonista Mônica Marsola, formando o grupo São Quixote e gravando um único álbum autointitulado. O disco contou, ainda, com a participação especial de Guilherme Arantes tocando moog e piano em cinco faixas do álbum gravado pelo selo independente Lira Paulistana.

after successive relaunches over the following
decades, became a cult classic.
STORY
In 1970, Guilherme Arantes went to watch the Plug, produced by his cousin Solano Ribeiro at the Ruth Escobar Theater and met Diogenes Burani. Soon Guilherme (keyboards), Diogenes (drums and percussion) and Rodolfo Grani Júnior (bass) would be accompanying Jorge Mautner in shows throughout São Paulo. When he entered the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the University of São Paulo, Guilherme met another musician: Cláudio Lucci. When Guilherme introduced his two friends - Diogenes and Claudius - to each other, the three decided to set up a band. Diogenes, in turn, had participated in an "embryo" of the group that Rita Lee was trying to assemble with her friend Lucinha Turnbull, after Rita Lee's departure from Os Mutantes, which was called Cilibrinas do Éden. From this project, Diogenes had met Gerson Tatini (bass) and Egidio Conde (guitar), suggesting their names to Guilherme and Claudio.
Some time after the group's formation, the band catches the eye of Moracy do Val, journalist and producer of Secos & Molhados's debut album, which starts working on promoting the band, getting a contract with GEL for the release of the album. a studio album by the Continental label - same label as Ney Matogrosso's group, João Ricardo and Gérson Conrad. Thus, in September and October 1974 - at the Sonima Studio, in São Paulo, they record their debut album, "Moto Perpetual", produced by Pena Schmidt and released on November 11, 1974 with a performance at Theatro Treze de Maio. The sound is notably influenced by the Clube da Esquina - very fashionable at the time - and famous progressive rock bands such as Genesis, Yes, Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Italian bands Le Orme and Premiata Forneria Marconi.
A few months later, the group would eventually end up with internal disagreements, with Guilherme Arantes wanting to move away from that progressive sound that he considered "elitist."
In 1981, three of the Moto Perpétuo members - Claudio Lucci, Gerson Tatini and Diogenes Burani - met with vocalist and guitarist Monica Marsola, forming the São Quixote group and recording a single self-titled album. The album also had the special participation of Guilherme Arantes playing moog and piano in five tracks of the album recorded by the independent label Lira Paulistana.
