Panama Limited Jug Band (Psychedelic Country Folk Blues Rock {UK})

Panama Limited Jug Band was a British rock band formed in late 1968 and was part of the country/blues/folk/rock movement in the United Kingdom, playing in the underground scene of the London Borough of Richmond, where they used to be held in home to Crawdaddy Club events. The band members were: Denis Parker (vocals), Gary Compton (harmonica), Brian Strachan (guitar), Liz Hann (vocals), Pete Hozzell (vocals), Ron Needs (mandolin) and Anne Matthews (vocals).

Panama Limited Jug Band played blues-oriented music in the style of a jug band - a term used to refer to groups that also incorporate household instruments such as washboard, spoons, bones, chimney, jewish harp, comb, kazoo, box of matches, etc. This can be heard on their first album, the self-titled "Panama Limited Jug Band" from 1969.

The second album, "Indian summer", appeared in 1970. The band had already shortened its name to Panama Limited, and material from this phase is compared to the progressive music of Captain Beefheart. Liz Hann left the band and was replaced by Anne Matthews, then 19 years old. Compared to the debut album which is musically inferior, the second album "Indian summer" was incredibly good. Unfortunately, the album did not sell well and the Harvest label dropped Panama Limited, causing the band to break up.

"Indian summer" remains a highly collectible album. In fact, it is the second highest-priced Harvest label artifact (after Tea & Symphony's "Jo Sago"). A copy of the original LP, in great condition, costs over £ 200.

Both albums were released by the Harvest label, at the time still owned by EMI, in addition to the singles "Lady of Shallott/Future blues" (1969) and "Round and Round/Rotting Wooden in a White Collar's Grave" (1970).
