Paradiso a Basso Prezzo é uma das poucas formações de rock progressivo italiano provenientes do Vale de Aosta, uma região notoriamente prolífica de esquiadores, políticos, atletas e advogados, mas não de vanguarda musical.

Nascida entre o final de 1971 e 1972, a banda era originalmente formada por Maurizio Baldassarri (guitarra), Dario Cardellina (baixo) e Paolo Manfrin (órgão Hammond), com a presença temporária de Corrado Pivot (bateria) e Gianni Bruna (vocais). No inverno de 1972, Guido Gressani assume o posto de baterista e, no ano seguinte, Ugo Wuillermin também se junta ao grupo (voz, teclado, violão e flauta).

Desde o início, a banda participou de festivais, dentre os quais o Avanguardia e o Nuove Tendenze de Nápoles, em 1973, e o Civitanova Marche, além de uma turnê com a The Trip. A banda também estava focada na criação das músicas que deveriam se tornar parte de seu primeiro álbum conceitual, "Pika - Dòn Hiroshima", que nunca viu a luz.

Enquanto isso, essas músicas são propostas em shows ao vivo e, em um desses shows (realizado em 26 de dezembro de 1973 no Arc-en-ciel, em Saint Vincent), é feita uma gravação que permanece "oculta" até 1992, ano em que a Mellow Records decide publicar em CD, intitulado simplesmente "Paradiso a Basso Prezzo". Apesar da baixa qualidade de áudio, pode-se perceber as boas habilidades técnicas dos músicos e as influências anglo-saxônicas (mas não apenas) de suas músicas, temperadas com nuances de jazz.

Em 1974, o caminho da Paradiso a Basso Prezzo toma outra direção: Gianni Bruna está de volta e é criado um novo grupo - La Soluzione - que continuou até o verão de 75, tocando música comercial nos salões de baile.

In 1974, the path from Paradiso a Basso Prezzo takes another direction: Gianni Bruna is back and a new group is created - La Soluzione - which continued until the summer of 75, playing commercial music in the ballrooms.
