HISTÓRIA

A banda Panta Rei foi formada entre 1970 e 1971 por Georg Trolin, um estudante da escola de arte em Estocolmo que havia tocado na banda de heavy psych blues rock Purple Hearts, o baterista Tomo Wihma e o mago da guitarra Thomas Arnesen. A banda fez uma turnê pela Finlândia, tocou em um grande festival de ácido em Uppsala, em 1971, e depois tentaram gravar um álbum, mas estavam tão chapados que nada foi feito, e as fitas viraram fumaça.

Em 1973, o guitarrista Leif Ostman, o baixista Cary Wihma e o saxofonista Göran Freese se juntaram e, juntos, solidificaram a abordagem improvisada da Panta Rei ao rock. HISTORY

The band Panta Rei was formed between 1970 and 1971 by Georg Trolin, an art school student in Stockholm who had played in the heavy psych blues rock band Purple Hearts, drummer Tomo Wihma, and guitar wizard Thomas Arnesen. The band toured Finland, played in a big acid festival in Uppsala, in 1971, and then tried to record an album, but they were so stoned that nothing was done, and the tapes went up in smoke.

In 1973, guitarist Leif Ostman, bassist Cary Wihma and saxophonist Göran Freese teamed up and together solidified Panta Rei's improvised approach to rock. The result was different in sound, but in a similar vein to the music of the Mahavishnu Orchestra, The Allman Brothers Band and Brian Auger's Oblivion Express. Its steady touch behind Arnesen's creepy guitar caught the attention of saxophonist Gunnar Lindqvist, who happened to be EMI's producer in Sweden. This led to the recording of Panta Rei's only album, released by the Harvest label (which was part of the EMI group) in 1973. The album "Panta Rei" has today become a highly sought after collector's item. Their original copies cost between $200 and $300 today.

After a Scandinavian tour held between 1973 and 1974, the band broke up. But, before the breakup happened, the band changed its name to Allting Flyter (Swedish for Panta Rei). But that didn't prevent the group's separation. After the split, drummer Tomo Wihma joined Kontinuerlig Drift, while bassist Zeke Öhrn played with Arbete och Fritid for a short time.

In 2012, the Mellotronen label unearthed some live recordings from 1973 and released them on an album titled "The naked truth". One of several Panta Rei sessions made for the Swedish radio show Tonkraft appeared in 2013 as part of the huge 40-CD box "Progglådan". Around 2015, singer Georg Trolin started Panta Rei 2.0, releasing the album "Last ticket to Heaven" in 2016.
