Los Vidrios Quebrados foi uma banda
precursora do rock chileno, formada no
ano 1964. Eles foram influenciados pelos
grupos ingleses The Rolling Stones,
The Yardbirds e The Beatles.
HISTÓRIA
Inicialmente a banda se apresentava sob o nome de Los Lawyers e era formada por Álvaro Larraín, Héctor Sepúlveda, Cristián Larráin e Juan Enrique Garcés - os dois primeiros eram alunos de Direito na Universidad Católica de Chile, Cristián era aluno de medicina na mesma universidade, e Garcés era aluno de Engenharia na Universidad Técnica del Estado. Juntos eles passaram a apresentar versões de canções de bandas anglo-saxônicas. Quando Álvaro Larraín deixou a banda, o grupo se tornou o trio Los Cuervos.
Em 1966, Juan Mateo O'Brien juntou-se ao grupo, e o grupo passou a se chamar Los Vidrios Quebrados. A banda participou com grande sucesso no Primeiro Festival da Canção da Universidade Católica (Primer Festival de la Canción de la UC) realizado no Teatro Nataniel em Santiago, e com isso conseguiu um contrato discográfico com a gravadora EMI Odeón, gravando seu primeiro single: "Friend/She'll never know in blue", de 1966.
No ano seguinte a banda gravou para a UES Producciones seu primeiro e único álbum, intitulado "Fictions", com o qual alcançou grande popularidade, chegando a participar dos programas de televisão Gente Joven e Juani en Sociedad.
O grupo se separou depois que Juan Mateo O'Brien decidiu se estabelecer em Paris em 1968. Héctor Sepúlveda foi para Londres em 1969, e Juan Enrique Garcés para Estocolmo no mesmo ano. Posteriormente, Sepúlveda voltaria ao Chile para formar, em 1971, o grupo de jazz-rock Nuevas Direcciones.
Em 2017, foi publicado um livro sobre a banda, com uma série de fotografias inéditas de 1967 e um texto de O'Brien.
O ÁLBUM
No álbum são discutidos vários temas: a homossexualidade do escritor Oscar Wilde - que é defendida no tema homônimo -, a religião - em "Como Jesucristo usó el suyo" - e o despertar da juventude diante dos anos 70 - em "Se oyen los pasos". Diante disso, o álbum gerou polêmica na sociedade chilena da época.
Em abril de 2008, a edição chilena da revista Rolling Stone classificou este álbum como o 14º melhor álbum chileno de todos os tempos.

Los Vidrios Quebrados was a pioneering
band of Chilean rock, formed in the year

STORY
Initially the band performed under the name of Los Lawyers and was formed by Álvaro Larraín, Héctor Sepúlveda, Cristián Larráin and Juan Enrique Garcés - the first two were Law students at the Universidad Católica de Chile, Cristián was a Medicine student at the same university, and Garcés was an Engineering student at the Universidad Técnica del Estado. Together they went on to perform versions of songs by Anglo-Saxon bands. When Álvaro Larraín left the band, the group became the trio Los Cuervos.
In 1966, Juan Mateo O'Brien joined the group, and the group was renamed Los Vidrios Quebrados. The band participated with great success in the First Festival of the Song of the Catholic University (Primer Festival de la Canción de la UC) held at Teatro Nataniel in Santiago, and with that got a record contract with the record label EMI Odeón, recording their first single: "Friend/She'll never know in blue", 1966.
The following year, the band recorded their first and only album for UES Producciones, entitled "Fictions", with which they achieved great popularity, coming to participate in the television programs Gente Joven and Juani en Sociedad.
The group broke up after Juan Mateo O'Brien decided to settle in Paris in 1968. Héctor Sepúlveda moved to London in 1969, and Juan Enrique Garcés to Stockholm in the same year. Later, Sepúlveda returned to Chile to form, in 1971, the jazz-rock group Nuevas Direcciones.
In 2017, a book about the band was published, with a series of unpublished photographs from 1967 and a text by O'Brien.
THE ALBUM
In the album various themes are discussed: the homosexuality of the writer Oscar Wilde - which is defended in the homonymous theme -, the religion - in "Como Jesucristo usó el suyo" - and the awakening of youth in the face of the 70s - in "Se oyen los pasos". Given this, the album generated controversy in Chilean society at that time.
In April 2008, the Chilean edition of Rolling Stone magazine ranked this album as the 14th best Chilean album of all time.
