Ralf Nowy & Methusalem (Progressive Jazz Fusion/Space/Electronic/Disco {Alemanha})

Nascido em 1940 em Berlim, o interesse musical de Ralf Nowy foi exposto pela primeira vez ao público durante seus anos de escola, quando formou sua primeira banda de rock'n'roll no final dos anos cinquenta. Após a formatura do Konservatorium, ele se juntou à cena do jazz alemão e também trabalhou para a estação de rádio Saaerland.

Sua carreira de gravadora começou gravando álbuns de exploração destinados a festas dançantes, seguindo o caminho aberto na Alemanha por artistas como Paul Nero (também conhecido como Klaus Doldinger). Mas, com a ascensão da cena krautrock ele se interessou por sons novos e mais experimentais e juntou forças com Paul Vincent (que havia tocado na Motherhood de Klaus Doldinger, do qual ele viria a formar a Hallellujah) e Keith Forsey (também da Hallellujah) - os três, sob o nome de The Ralf Nowy Group, tornaram-se um dos artistas mais quentes da cena de Munique, deixando a clássica obra-prima de 1973 "Lucifer's dream" na Intercord Records.

Neste álbum, participaram músicos da Amon Düül II: Lothar Meid (baixo), Keith Forsey (bateria) e Alois Gromer (sitar). Outros envolvidos foram: Andy Marx (guitarra), Paul Vincent (guitarra), Don Anderson (teclados) e Gary Unwin (baixo). No álbum eles apresentaram uma interessante fusão jazz-rock com sabor étnico. O grupo ainda lançou mais dois álbuns de jazz-rock convencionais pela Atlantic: "Escalation" (1974) e "Nowy 2" (1975). Em "Nowy 2", Nick Woodland (guitarrista inglês conhecido por seu trabalho com Gift e Sahara) e Lothar Meid foram os convidados. Ralf Nowy mais tarde tocou com a banda Morgenrot, em seu primeiro álbum auto-intitulado, lançado pela CBS em 1979.

Em 1980, Ralf Nowy junto a Tom Müller e Jack White, produz um álbum intitulado "Journey into the unknown", sob o nome de Methusalem, pelo selo Ariola. O projeto é mais direcionado à música eletrônica e disco, porém ainda tem umas passagens progressivas no álbum, como pode ser notado na bela "You are the sun". Além do álbum, foram lançados dois singles no ano 1980: "Robotism/Alien" e "Zombie/Time machine" também pelo selo Ariola.

Seus próximos álbums em carreira solo foram: "Colours" (1986, Palm Records PALM 29001), "Colours of crime" (1987, Palm Records PALM 29006), "Colours of holidays" (1987, Palm Records PALM 29010), "Ralf's jingle factory" (1988, Palm Records PALM 29012), "Early encounters" (1995, Teubner-Production 63457 1995) e "Time voyager" (1997).

Ralf Nowy, que faleceu em 2010, também contribuiu em obras de Drosselbart, Improved Sound Limited e Tender Aggress.

Born in 1940 in Berlin, Ralf Nowy's musical interest was first exposed to the public during his school years, when he formed his first rock'n'roll band in the late 1950s. After graduation from the Konservatorium, he joined the German jazz scene and also worked for the radio station Saaerland.

His recording career began by recording exploration albums intended for dance parties, following the path pioneered in Germany by artists such as Paul Nero (aka Klaus Doldinger). But with the rise of the krautrock scene he became interested in newer, more experimental sounds and joined forces with Paul Vincent (who had played in Klaus Doldinger's Motherhood, from which he would go on to form Hallellujah) and Keith Forsey (also of Hallellujah) - the three, under the name The Ralf Nowy Group, became one of the hottest artists on the Munich scene, leaving the classic 1973 masterpiece "Lucifer's dream" on Intercord Records.

This album featured musicians from Amon Düül II: Lothar Meid (bass), Keith Forsey (drums) and Alois Gromer (sitar). Others involved were: Andy Marx (guitar), Paul Vincent (guitar), Don Anderson (keyboards) and Gary Unwin (bass). On the album they presented an interesting jazz-rock fusion with an ethnic flavor. The project is more directed to electronic and disco music, but still has some progressive passages on the album, as can be seen in the beautiful "You are the sun". In addition to the album, two singles were released in 1980: "Robotism/Alien" and "Zombie/Time machine" also on the Ariola label.
