HISTÓRIA

Zzebra foi formada em 1974 por membros de outras duas brilhantes bandas da época: If e Osibisa. O principal compositor e instrumentista de sopro, Dave Quincy, e o guitarrista Terry Smith deixaram a If após seu quarto álbum e conheceram Loughty Amao (Osibisa). Juntos eles formaram a Zzebra, com a proposta de incorporar elementos da música africana. O baterista irlandês Liam Genockey e Scott John McCoy no baixo completaram o line-up. O tecladista/instrumentista de sopro/compositor Gus Yeadon (August Eadon, ex-Love Affair) saiu ao longo da gravação do primeiro álbum, trazendo Tommy Eyre (ex-Ainsley Dunbar e Mark-Almond) para completar e assim permanecer como um sexteto.

Ainda neste mesmo ano a banda entra em estúdio para realizar a gravação se seu primeiro álbum, "Zzebra". A música era uma marca especial de funky brass-rock que poderia facilmente ser comparada com Mandrill, Cymande, Osibisa e Demon Fuzz ou mesmo War (com ou sem Eric Burdon). O álbum foi gravado no Escape Studios de Londres, Inglaterra em outubro de 1974 e mixado no Advision Studios (Londres, Inglaterra) em novembro de 1974. E lançado provavelmente no mês de dezembro deste mesmo ano.

Mais tarde no mesmo ano, eles gravaram seu segundo álbum chamado "Panic", mas naquela época, eles se tornaram um septeto ao contratar Alan Marshall nos vocais. Durante as sessões de gravação do álbum "Panic", o guitarrista Terry Smith saiu, então veio Steve Byrd para finalmente estabilizar a formação. "Panic" também conta com a presença do guitarrista Jeff Beck, que contribuiu com seus dotes guitarrísticos na música "Put a light on me". O álbum foi gravado e mixado nos mesmos estúdios que o primeiro.

Em 1975, a banda gravou mais um álbum, "Take it or leave it". HISTORY

Zzebra was formed in 1974 by members of two other brilliant bands of the time: If and Osibisa. Lead songwriter and wind instrumentalist Dave Quincy and guitarist Terry Smith left If after their fourth album and met Loughty Amao (Osibisa). Together they formed Zzebra, with the proposal to incorporate elements of African music. Irish drummer Liam Genockey and Scott John McCoy on bass completed the line-up. Keyboardist/wind instrumentalist/composer Gus Yeadon (August Eadon, ex-Love Affair) left throughout the recording of the first album, bringing in Tommy Eyre (ex-Ainsley Dunbar and Mark-Almond) to complete and thus remain a sextet.

In the same year, the band entered the studio to record their first album, "Zzebra". The music was a special brand of funky brass-rock that could easily be compared to Mandrill, Cymande, Osibisa and Demon Fuzz or even War (with or without Eric Burdon). The album was recorded at Escape Studios in London, England in October 1974 and mixed at Advision Studios (London, England) in November 1974. It was probably released in December of the same year.

Later in the same year, they recorded their second album called "Panic", but by that time, they had become a septet by hiring Alan Marshall on vocals. During the recording sessions for the "Panic" album, guitarist Terry Smith left, then came Steve Byrd to finally stabilize the lineup. "Panic" also features guitarist Jeff Beck, who contributed his guitar skills to the song "Put a light on me". The album was recorded and mixed in the same studios as the first.

In 1975, the band recorded another album, "Take it or leave it". The band continued touring the UK and US until 1978, when Genockey, McCoy and Byrd left the band to join Ian Gillan's new band. For some unknown reason the group never released its third album, until the record label Disconforme reissued the two historic albums, doing the same for "Take it or leave it" in 1999. In 2001 the Angel Air Records label released "Lost world", which includes some live recordings of the band in the year 1975.
