HISTÓRIA

Antes de ingressar na Hard Meat, o baterista Mick (Mike) Carless havia sido membro do grupo musical The Chevrons (de Ilfracombe, Devon, Reino Unido), que esteve ativo de 1962 à 1966. Depois que a banda encerrou as suas atividades, Mike continuou com a banda Hard Meat.

Hard Meat foi formada pelos irmãos nascidos em Birmingham, Michael Dolan (guitarra, vocal [1947 - 2 de agosto de 2014]) e Steve Dolan (baixo, vocais [1948 - 22 de maio de 2000].

O single de estréia do trio foi um cover de "Rain" da The Beatles no lado A, com "Burning up years" no lado B, lançado pela gravadora Island em 1969. Seguiu-se dois álbuns lançados pela Warner Bros. em 1970: "Hard Meat" e "Through a window". O segundo single (escolhido do último álbum) foi "The ballad of Marmalade Emma and Teddy Grimes", baseado na vida de dois vagabundos conhecidos de Colchester (leia sobre eles aqui). Apesar das turnês pela Europa e pelos EUA, nenhum álbum teve sucesso nas paradas, e o grupo se separou, formando logo depois a banda Big Front Yard. 

A banda neozelandesa The Human Instinct fez um cover de "Burning up years" em seu primeiro álbum de 1969, com o mesmo nome.

STORY

Prior to joining Hard Meat, drummer Mick (Mike) Carless had been a member of The Chevrons music group (from Ilfracombe, Devon, UK), which was active from 1962 to 1966. After the band ended their activities, Mike continued with the band Hard Meat.

Hard Meat was formed by Birmingham-born brothers Michael Dolan (guitar, vocals [1947 - August 2, 2014]) and Steve Dolan (bass, vocals [1948 - May 22, 2000]).

The trio's debut single was a cover of The Beatles' "Rain" on side A, with "Burning up years" on side B, released by Island label in 1969. This was followed by two albums released by Warner Bros. in 1970: "Hard Meat" and "Through a window". The second single (chosen from the last album) was "The ballad of Marmalade Emma and Teddy Grimes", based on the life of two well-known Colchester bums (read about them here). Despite the European and US tours, no albums were successful on the charts, and the group broke up, soon forming the band Big Front Yard.

New Zealand band The Human Instinct covered "Burning up years" on their first album of 1969, with the same name.
