Blackhorse was a Texan (Mineral Wells, Texas, US) power trio who operated in the Fort Worth/Dallas area during the seventies. The band, formed in the early 70's, was in the same territory as ZZ Top and Point Blank, playing an almost impeccable "Texan boogie", besides being there or there during the decade, while these two other teams were recording and in tour incessantly.

Gary James had a formidable reputation, and his playing paved the way for many other bands to follow in his footsteps. It is easy to see where other southern bands may have learned a thing or two from watching Blackhorse perform live in many locations throughout the south during that period.
