Named because of its members' scattered musical backgrounds, Eclection was made up of unknown musicians at the time and left a lonely pearl of psychedelic folk rock as the sole record of his career. Trevor Lucas, an Australian, had some previous small-scale success, having established himself on the burgeoning folk circuit. Hultgren was Norwegian, Rosen, Canadian, and Kerilee Male, also Australian. Conway was the only British member of the formation who had worked as a teenager with Alexis Korner and was the last to participate.

Unusual for a British band, they signed with Elektra Records and they saw it as an achievement in itself. In fact, Elektra thought about the group a lot and was disappointed that the group's advance never came. They were undoubtedly talented and they merged their skills to produce an interesting and imaginative album based on British and American traditions, with a general sound that could easily have been mistaken for the Californian. His album is typical of the period, being bright and cheerful, with optimistic lyrics and good female and male vocal harmonies.

They were regulars live during this period, but never made any real advances, either through sales or fame. Kerilee Male's distinctive voice was a strong feature, being very prominent, and at least it attracted some press attention. She left immediately after the album's release and was replaced by Afro-American singer Dorris Henderson. She had previously worked with John Renbourn on two of her albums. Guitarist Rosen was also succeeded by John "Poli" Palmer, adding to the turmoil in the band. His stay was short-lived when he resigned a year later to join the Family. Perhaps because of these three major changes, the band never really fulfilled its potential, giving up soon afterwards.

Lucas and Conway soon returned to music, forming Fotheringay with Sandy Denny. Lucas would later marry Denny, and the two, together or individually, took turns as part of the Fairport Convention schedule. Like Denny, unfortunately, Trevor Lucas is no longer alive, having passed away in 1989. Conway made a small contribution to Jethro Tull and The Pentangle before completing another round, joining the Fairport Convention. Hultgren changed his second name to Kajanus and achieved some success when he formed the pop group Sailor. Rosen was a member of the initial formation of the Average White Band and also formed Mogul Thrash. After the separation from the original band, Dorris Henderson had the tenacity to tour with a group of musicians under the name Eclection during the 1970s, but nothing happened.
