Twenty Sixty Six and Then - Reflections on the future - 1972 (Krautrock/Heavy Progressive Rock {Alemanha})

Twenty Sixty Six and Then - Reflections on the future - 1972 (2017, Made in Germany Music [front])

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The band was founded in Mannheim, Germany, in 1971 by Geff Harrison (lead vocals), Gagey Mrozeck (guitars), Dieter Bauer (bass), Konstatin Bommarius (drums), Steve Robinson and Veit Marvos (both sharing organ, piano functions). electric, vibrations, synthesizer, mellotron and vocals).

The name "2066 and Then" comes from adding an extra 1000 to number 1066, the year of the historic Battle of Hastings The group's leader, Geff Harrison, was born in the UK and had enough experience, singing in several little known psychedelic groups. The rest of the musicians, despite not having this experience, were excellent instrumentalists.

The first public appearance of Twenty Sixty Six and Then was held in August 1971. Despite the constant club tour, the group still managed to sign a contract in the fall of 1971 and record at Dierks Studio in the small town of Stommeln - not far from Cologne - the material for the first LP. And in early 1972, the album "Reflections on the future" was released on United Artists Records with a print run of 1000 copies. In less than a month, all copies of the print run were sold out.

But there was no continuation. Following the group's collapse, Geff Harrison and Gagey Mrozeck joined another German hard rock band, Kin Ping Meh, which lasted several years and gained some popularity, especially in their homeland. Steve Robinson has been a member of Nine Day's Wonder and Aera for a while. Konstantin Bommarius worked at Abacus in the early seventies, as well as an excellent hard rock band, Karthago. Veit Marvos, following the collapse of Twenty Sixty Six and Then, joined Emergency, then Tiger B. Smith and Midnight Circus. And Dieter Baucer worked for a while with Aera.

At the initiative of Geff Harrison, two years after the collapse, a double album, "Reflections on the past" was released, which included previously unreleased, often raw and unfinished compositions by the group, as well as new versions of some songs from the previous album.

In 1989, on the label Second Battle, specializing in relaunches of little-known German progressive and psychedelic groups, the album "Reflections on the future" was reissued. And in 2008, the same label released a double vinyl edition (Second Battle SB LP 068), complemented by live performance recordings, including a 2002 recording. The version presented here is from 2017, released in double CD format, with demo and live studio tracks, some photos and the band's history (in German), by the Mig-Music label.

Their dramatic, organ-soaked music sometimes uses symphonic elements, but the band is not afraid to immerse themselves in some heavy guitars and organs, playing with jazz elements some fast-moving rhythmic parts mixed to weird and very interesting psychedelic electronic effects.  The hoarse vocals are one highlight of the album, but it may take some getting used to - just like the band's overall work on this album. Although said this, you can be sure that this is an excellent record and the quality of the compositions are very high. Some even call it "the progressive rock Bible".
