Teodor Danysz, líder (teclados, todas as composições), assumia a banda com uma visão específica. Os músicos passaram dias em "Squares" (Clube de Estudantes da Universidade de Economia em Katowice), de onde surgiu o nome da banda.
No início dos anos 80, Kwadrat pertenceu ao topo da rocha polonesa. Mais de 20 excelentes músicos de vários gêneros, fascinados pelo jazz, rock e blues, incluindo Teodor Danysz, Jacek Gazda, Michał Giercuszkiewicz, Ryszard Wegrzyn e Adam Otręba, passaram pela banda.

Muitos bons músicos vieram através da banda. O co-fundador do grupo era Adam Otręba, atualmente tocando com a banda Dżyem. Por algum tempo, Ireneusz Dudek (harmonica) se identificou com o grupo. Depois dos shows em Sopot, das apresentações no International Spring Stage em Poznańb, e depois do primeiro Rawach Blues no Katowice "Spodek", Kwadrat decidiu cooptar para a banda do vocalista.

The jazz-rock band Kwadrat (Square) fits the legendary Polish trend of Young Generation Music. In the center of the Polish blues, in Silesia, and precisely in Katowice, during the blues boom in the late seventies, the Kwadrat group was created. From the beginning, it was considered one of the best jazz-rock bands in Poland.
Teodor Danysz, leader (keyboards, all compositions), took the band with a specific vision. The musicians spent days in "Squares" (Student Club of the University of Economics in Katowice), from where the name of the band appeared.
In the early 1980s, Kwadrat belonged to the top of the Polish rock. More than 20 great musicians of various genres, fascinated by jazz, rock and blues, including Teodor Danysz, Jacek Gazda, Michał Giercuszkiewicz, Ryszard Wegrzyn and Adam Otręba, passed by the band.
The band debuted in 1978. Over time, without renouncing its jazzy fascination, it began to weigh more and more for progressive rock. This combination of jazz-rock sound with the atmosphere evoking the music of Jethro Tull or Rick Wakeman, resulted in songs like "Polowanie na leśniczego" or "Quasimodo" (published by Tonpress). At that time the band showed an enthusiastic performance during the 2nd Young Music Festival in Sopot in 1979 and participated in the Young Generation Music International Music Clashes, Pop Session 80, and played in the Amphitheater in Sopot, where the group was warmly welcomed received by critics.
The characteristic sound, the rich arrangements, and the melodically and rhythmically varied side of the group are the advantages that make the music of the Kwadrat group live to this day.
Many good musicians came through the band. The co-founder of the group was Adam Otręba, currently playing with the band Dżyem. For some time, Ireneusz Dudek (harmonica) identified with the group. After concerts in Sopot, performances at the International Spring Stage in Poznańb, and after the first Rawach Blues in Katowice "Spodek", Kwadrat decided to co-opt for the band's lead singer.
The competition was on the heels and it was necessary to meet the needs of the listeners. What was successful two years ago failed to fascinate with time. At shows, Ireneusz Dudek was constantly looking for his own artistic expression. In the shows there was also a great blues singer, Elbieta Mielczarek but, also, after some time she left the music of Kwadrat. The search for an initiated singer, who would cooperate constantly with the group, gave Kwadrat a different character, contrary to what was already known by the public. Then, unexpectedly, such a man appeared in the band: Wojciech Gorczyca, unknown to any previous musical performances, an economics student (now living in Reda) and who brought the group a new "dressing". However, Martial Law thwarted everything.
