Thunderhead foi uma banda de hard blues rock formada em Nova Orleans no início dos anos 70. O único álbum deles, "Thunderhead", foi escolhido pela ABC/Dunhill Records e lançado em 1975. Embora a banda tenha tido pouco sucesso em partes do país, sua incansável turnê e promoção do álbum foi recebida com indiferença geral e os membros da banda se separaram no ano seguinte. Alguns deles passaram a trabalhar na produção e engenharia de estúdios e com o famosíssimo guitarrista Johnny Winter. Aliás, em outra versão do álbum, há um agradecimento especial à Johnny Winter "por sua produção, performance e inspiração neste álbum".
Em uma página do livreto que acompanha o CD lê-se que "às vezes, Winter fazia parte do grupo e, durante os anos de 77 e 78, eles tocavam e faziam turnês juntos. Pat participou no álbum "White hot & blue" de Winter, tocando slide guitar em "Walkin' by myself". Com exceção do próprio Winter, Pat foi o único outro guitarrista a tocar slide em um álbum de Winter."
Este álbum é uma excelente incursão no hard southern blues rock, como a Point Blank ou a Hydra. As harmonias vocais são estelares e as performances são fluentes e poderosas. É um choque que essa banda tenha sido relegada à obscuridade, pois as composições são de primeira qualidade e a produção é bastante excepcional, dado o ano em que o álbum foi gravado. O estilo arrojado da banda é adornado com flautas e congas, tornando-as entradas totalmente únicas no gênero de rock sulista.

Thunderhead was a hard blues rock band formed in New Orleans in the early 1970s. Their only album, "Thunderhead", was chosen by ABC/Dunhill Records and released in 1975. Although the band had little success in parts of the country, its tireless tour and promotion of the album was met with general indifference and the band members split up the following year. Some of them went to work in studio production and engineering and with the famous guitarist Johnny Winter. By the way, in another version of the album, there is a special thanks to Johnny Winter "for his production, performance and inspiration on this album".
One page of the accompanying booklet reads that "sometimes Winter sit in with the group and during the 77's and 78's they played and toured together. Pat participated in Winter's albu "White hot & blue", playing slide guitar in "Walkin' by myself". With the exception of Winter himself, Pat was the only other guitarist to play slide on a Winter album."
This album is an excellent foray into hard southern blues rock, such as Point Blank or Hydra. The vocal harmonies are stellar and the performances are fluent and powerful. It is a shock that this band has been relegated to obscurity as the compositions are top notch and the production is quite exceptional, given the year the album was recorded. The bold style of the band is adorned with flutes and congas, making them totally unique entries in the southern rock genre.
