HISTÓRIA

Eddie Hardin (Edward Harding, 19 de fevereiro de 1949), pianista, cantor e compositor de rock inglês, juntamente com o baterista, Pete York (15 agosto de 1942), deixaram a Spencer Davis Group em 26 de outubro de 1968, devido a "diferenças em relação à política musical". Juntos eles formaram a Hardin & York.

A dupla britânica teve grande sucesso no início dos anos 70, especialmente na Alemanha. Inicialmente, os dois perseguiram vários outros projetos antes de se fundirem em uma dupla.

A primeira aparição de Hardin & York ocorreu em 31 de agosto de 1969 no London Marquee Club. Depois disso, a dupla fez apresentações no Hamburg Star Club e em um festival em Essen. O sucesso foi irrefreável.

O primeiro álbum, "Tomorrow today", apareceu no final de 1969. Um crítico classificou Hardin & York como uma mistura da Procol Harum e Traffic. O álbum vendeu bem, especialmente no continente europeu, mas também nos Estados Unidos. Surpreendentemente, o álbum não foi bem recebido na Inglaterra. Herbie Flowers (baixo), Vic Flick (guitarra) e os vocalistas de apoio Sue e Sunny, contribuíram para o álbum.

Entre 1974 e 1975, eles tocaram juntos com Charlie McCracken (baixo, ex-Taste) novamente como um trio. Depois disso, Hardin e York encontraram esse nome apenas ocasionalmente em festivais. 

Hardin continuou como artista solo, ocasionalmente se reunindo com York. Grande parte de seu trabalho a partir de 1974 foi produzido por Roger Glover, que havia deixado a Deep Purple, na época. Hardin participou do projeto solo de Glover, "The butterfly ball and the grasshopper's feast", naquele ano, cantando a faixa "Sir Maximus Mouse", tocando e co-escrevendo outras.

Em 1995, a dupla lançou o álbum "Still a few pages left". De 2008 a 2012, Pete York trabalhou na banda de Helge Schneider. A dupla voltou a se apresentar até a morte de Eddie Hardin, em 22 de julho de 2015, vítima de ataque cardíaco aos 66 anos.

STORY

Eddie Hardin (Edward Harding, February 19, 1949), pianist, singer and English rock composer, along with drummer Pete York (August 15, 1942), left the Spencer Davis Group on October 26, 1968, due to "differences in music policy". Together they formed Hardin & York.

The British duo had great success in the early 70's, especially in Germany. Initially, the two pursued several other projects before merging into a pair.

Hardin & York's first appearance took place on August 31, 1969 at the London Marquee Club. After that, the duo performed at the Hamburg Star Club and at a festival in Essen. The success was unstoppable.

The first album, "Tomorrow today", appeared in late 1969. One reviewer classified Hardin & York as a mix of Procol Harum and Traffic. The album sold well, especially on the European continent, but also in the United States. Surprisingly, the album was not well received in England. Herbie Flowers (bass), Vic Flick (guitar) and backing vocalists Sue and Sunny contributed to the album.

A recording of a performance in Germany in 1970 appeared in 1971 without the band's knowledge as a pirate record. In early 1971 Hardin & York appeared as the opening band for Deep Purple. At that time, the two musicians formed other projects besides Hardin & York: York formed the Pete York Percussion Band, and Hardin formed the Hardin/Fenwick/Newman. In 1972, Eddie Hardin released his solo debut "Home is where you find it."

In 1972 Ray Fenwick (guitar) joined Hardin & York and they appeared as Hardin, York & Fenwick. In 1973, there was a revival of the Spencer Davis Group, but the band broke up again after two albums. Between 1974 and 1975, they played together with Charlie McCracken (bass, ex-Taste) again as a trio. After that, Hardin and York found this name only occasionally at festivals.

Hardin continued as a solo artist, occasionally reuniting with York. Much of his work from 1974 was produced by Roger Glover, who had left Deep Purple at the time. Hardin participated in Glover's solo project "The butterfly ball and the grasshopper's feast" that year, singing the track "Sir Maximus Mouse", playing and co-writing others.

In 1995, the duo released the album "Still a few pages left". From 2008 to 2012, Pete York worked in Helge Schneider's band. The pair performed again until the death of Eddie Hardin on July 22, 2015, a heart attack victim at age 66.
