White Wing - White Wing - 1976 (Progressive Rock {US})

White Wing (ou WhiteWing), anteriormente chamada de Forbidden Children, foi formada em Rapid City (Dakota do Sul, EUA) em 1968. Os membros fundadores foram: Mike Drew (vocal, órgão), Rod Schroeder (vocal, guitarra), Mike Coates (guitarra), Gary Cass (baixo) e Norm Curtis (bateria). Desde o início da banda, eles estiveram em turnê com artistas nacionais em Dakota do Norte e do Sul, Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, Nebraska, Minnesota e Canadá. Seu nome se tornou sinônimo de boa música e performances elétricas.

Com esta formação, a banda lançou dois singles no ano de 1970: "Lukie's tune/Melancholy" (Power Page Recordings, R2569) e "The nation's at war/April’s music box" (Power Page Recordings, R2570). Em 1974, Mike Niva se juntou a banda nos teclados e vocais.

Em 1975, com a formação dos membros originais Coates, Curtis e Cass e, agora, com Tim Renshaw nos teclados e Mike English nos vocais principais, White Wing fechou um contrato com a gravadora ASI, de Minneapolis, e lançou seu primeiro álbum autointitulado. O single desse álbum, intitulado "Hansa" - "Slave/Hansa" (ASI 1006, 1976) - e escrito por Mike Coates, alcançou o topo das paradas de singles da Billboard.

Posteriormente, o álbum da White Wing foi vendido em todo os Estados Unidos, Canadá e Europa. As estações de rádio colocaram "Hansa" em um intervalo de rotação frequente como parte da programação de sua estação: "Hansa" teve uma transmissão massiva de rádio em todo o Meio-Oeste e Canadá.

White Wing (or WhiteWing), formerly Forbidden Children, formed in Rapid City (South Dakota, USA) in 1968. The founding members were: Mike Drew (vocals, organ), Rod Schroeder (vocals, guitar), Mike Coates (guitar), Gary Cass (bass) and Norm Curtis (battery). Since the band's inception, they have toured with national artists in North and South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, Nebraska, Minnesota and Canada. His name has become synonymous with good music and electric performances.

With this line-up, the band released two singles in 1970: "Lukie's tune/Melancholy" (Power Page Recordings, R2569) and "The nation's at war/Aprilpris music box" (Power Page Recordings, R2570). In 1974, Mike Niva joined the band on keyboards and vocals.

In 1975, with the formation of original members Coates, Curtis and Cass, and now with Tim Renshaw on keyboards and Mike English on lead vocals, White Wing signed with Minneapolis record label ASI and released their first self-titled album. The single from this album, titled "Hansa" - "Slave/Hansa" (ASI 1006, 1976) - and written by Mike Coates, reached the top of the Billboard singles chart.

Subsequently, White Wing's album was sold throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. Radio stations put "Hansa" on a frequent rotation interval as part of their station's programming: "Hansa" had massive radio broadcasts across the Midwest and Canada.

But what should have been a good start, unfortunately fell by the wayside. Their album wasn't always available in the cities where the band played to promote it, and the fact that their record company sold the band as an American equivalent of The Moody Blues - when the sound they explored was actually more oriented to hard prog rock - did not help the band. As if that wasn't enough, the label abandoned the band instead of releasing their second album, while the lead songwriter was advised to abandon the band's rhythm section and begin cooperating with a lead singer of the label's choice. The end result of this was that White Wing broke up in late 1976, with a single album to their name.

White Wing disbanded, but left a mark on South Dakota rock history by founding a distinct, progressive style that is still rare and appreciated by a multitude of vinyl collectors and progressive rock aficionados. Many of the former members are still active and working in the music industry.
