HISTÓRIA

A banda adolescente Landscape se separou em Basileia em maio de 1975. Bernie Krauer (vocal, órgão, piano elétrico, Mellotron, sintetizador) e Tommy Stebel (bateria, percussão, violão, backing vocal) continuaram como uma dupla. Apesar de sua diversidade instrumental incomum, eles decidiram procurar apoio e, após uma longa pesquisa, encontraram Francis Jost, o baixista. A partir desse estágio, o trio se chamava Welcome. Eles se concentraram principalmente na música instrumental.

Logo depois, eles gravaram o LP "Welcome" no Aquarius Studios, em Genebra, e foi publicado pela EMI/Suíça. Inicialmente, foram realizados vários shows promocionais, incluindo um no Comedy Theatre, em Basileia. No entanto, devido à ineficácia das editoras e distribuidoras, as vendas de seu primeiro LP foram bastante moderadas, apesar da grande performance artística.

No final de 1977, Francis Jost deixou o grupo e foi substituído por Helmi Erdinger em fevereiro de 1978. Mais shows se seguiram, além de meses de preparação para o LP "You're welcome", que foi produzido em 1979 pela Babylon na Alemanha. Com o lançamento deste álbum, que apresenta duas grandes canções de rock progressivo semelhantes ao anterior, bem como números orientados para as paradas que incorporam uma direção mais pop, Welcome finalmente consegue ganhar grande popularidade.

Pouco antes das vendas de "You're welcome", o ex-guitarrista da Magma, Jean De Anthony, se juntou ao grupo como o quarto membro. Então, quando Bernie Krauer e Helmi Erdinger deixaram a banda por motivos familiares, novos músicos trouxeram um novo som e dedicaram seu tempo a encontrar uma nova direção musical. Como resultado, o grupo gravou um terceiro álbum em Austin, mas nunca o lançou. Em 1981 Welcome separa-se definitivamente.

STORY

The teenage band Landscape split-up in Basel in May, 1975. Bernie Krauer (lead vocals, organ, electric piano, Mellotron, synthesizer) and Tommy Stebel (drums, percussion, acoustic guitar, backing vocals) carried on as a duo. Inspite of their unusual instrumental diversity they decided to look for backing and after a long search they found Francis Jost, the bassist. From that stage on the trio called themselves Welcome. They concentrated mainly on instrumental music.

Soon after this they recorded the LP "Welcome" at Aquarius Studios in Geneva and it was published through EMI/Switzerland. Initially a number of promotional gigs were played, including ine in the Comedy Theatre in Basel. However, due to the ineffectiveness of the publishers and distributors, sales of their first LP were rather moderate, despite the great artistic performance.

At the end of 1977, Francis Jost left the group and was replaced by Helmi Erdinger in February, 1978. More concerts followed, plus months of preparation for the LP "You're welcome" which was produced in 1979 by Babylon in Germany. With the release of this album, which features two great progressive rock songs similar to the previous one, as well as chart-oriented numbers that incorporate a more pop-oriented direction, Welcome finally manages to gain great popularity.

Just before the sales of "You're welcome", former Magma guitarist Jean De Anthony joined the group as the fourth member. So, when Bernie Krauer and Helmi Erdinger left the band for family reasons, new musicians brought in a new sound and devoted their time to finding a new musical direction. As a result, the group recorded a third album in Austin but never released it. In 1981 Welcome definitely broke up.
