Life - Life - 1970 (Progressive Rock {Suécia})

A banda foi formada na primavera de 1970, durante uma série de jam-sessions, envolvendo vários jovens músicos, numa casa de campo ao norte de Estocolmo. Life estava pronta para seu primeiro show em meados de junho de 1970, que aconteceu no Karen, um dos principais palcos do rock de Estocolmo na época.

Durante o verão, Life realizou apresentações ao vivo memoráveis no Festival de Mantorp (a resposta sueca a Woodstock) e em clubes lendários de rock e jazz, como The Golden Circle em Estocolmo e Revolution em Copenhague. No outono de 1970, a banda abriu para a Procol Harum e a Deep Purple na sala de concertos de Estocolmo.

A banda lançou seu primeiro e único LP no outono de 1970. Seguido pelo single "Jag färdas/Living is loving", lançado em setembro de 1970. O álbum foi produzido por Anders Henriksson, com engenharia de Björn Norén, Gunnar Lööf e Lars Rosin no Studio 3, Europafilm Solna e no estúdio EMI, em Skarmarbrink, Estocolmo. A capa do álbum foi pintada por Dan Ahlquist. A versão em inglês de "Life" foi lançada na primavera de 1971. O segundo single, "To the country /Tro på vår värld", foi lançado em novembro de 1972.

No inverno e na primavera de 1971, Life passava a maior parte do tempo na estrada. A banda foi considerada um dos grupos de rock mais pesados do país e os jornais chamaram seu álbum recém-lançado de "um dos melhores já feitos na Suécia".

Em junho de 1971, o diretor da versão itinerante do musical "Hair" viu Life se apresentar em um clube em Estocolmo. Ele imediatamente ofereceu aos membros papéis no musical. Life fez uma pausa como grupo por três meses e seus membros viajaram pela Escandinávia como artistas musicais. Cantar, dançar e atuar num ambiente tão profissional teve uma influência importante em cada indivíduo. Infelizmente, não na Life como um grupo.

De volta a Estocolmo, o grupo mudou-se para uma casa na zona rural ao sul de Estocolmo e tentou restabelecer a sua forma de trabalhar em conjunto. Depois de seis meses a verdade era óbvia: os membros haviam se distanciado e decidiram separar a banda, em paz, em agosto de 1972.

O baterista Thomas Rydberg morreu em 1988. 34 anos depois, Life se reuniu novamente, inicialmente para se preparar para um concerto de júbilo. A nova formação consistia em Anders Nordh e Paul Sundlin da primeira formação da banda, com Dan Ahlquist (guitarra, vocal) e Fredrik Broquist (bateria, vocal) como os novos membros. Life relatou planos para lançar novas músicas em sua página oficial em 2007. Os planos foram cumpridos em 5 de janeiro de 2014 com o lançamento de "After a Life". O novo álbum contém 13 novas faixas e foi gravado, mixado e masterizado no Musikstudion Måsen e lançado pelo selo de mesmo nome, de propriedade de Anders Nordh.

The band was formed in the spring 1970, during a serie of jam-sessions, involving several young musicians, in a country-house north of Stockholm. Life was ready for their first gig in the middle of june 1970, which took place at Karen, one of the central rockscenes in Stockholm, at the time.

During the summer, Life performed memorable live acts at the Mantorp Festival (Swedens answer to Woodstock) and at legendary rock- and jazzclubs, such as The Golden Circle in Stockholm and Revolution in Copenhagen. In the autumn of 1970 the band was supporting act for Procol Harum and Deep Purple at the concert hall in Stockholm.

The band released its first and only LP in autumn 1970. Followed by the single "Jag färdas/Living is loving", released in September 1970. The album was produced by Anders Henriksson, engineered by Björn Norén, Gunnar Lööf and Lars Rosin at Studio 3, Europafilm Solna and the EMI studio, in Skarmarbrink, Stockholm. The album cover was painting by Dan Ahlquist. English version for "Life" was released in Spring 1971. The second single, "To the country/Tro på vår värld", was released November 1972.

In the Winter and Spring of 1971, Life was on the road most of the time. The band was considered one of the heaviest rockgroups in the country and newspapers called their newly released album "one of the best ever done in Sweden".

In june 1971 the director of the touring version of the musical "Hair" saw Life performe at a club in Stockholm. He immediately offered the members casting parts in the musical. Life took a break as a group for three months and its members toured Scandinavia as musical artists. Singing, dancing and acting in such a professional surrounding had an important influence on each individual. Unfortunately, not on Life as a group.

Back in Stockholm, the group moved to a house in the countryside south of Stockholm and tried to reestablish their way of working together. After six month the truth was obvious: the members had grown apart and they decided to split the band, in peace, on August 1972.

Drummer Thomas Rydberg died 1988. 34 years later Life reunited again, initially to prepare for a jubilation concert. The new line-up consisted of Anders Nordh and Paul Sundlin from the first formation of the band, with Dan Ahlquist (guitars, vocal) and Fredrik Broquist (drums, vocal) as the new members. Life reported plans for releasing new music on its homepage in 2007. Plans were fulfilled on January 5, 2014 with the release of "After a Life". The new album contains 13 new tracks and was recorded, mixed and mastered at Musikstudion Måsen and released on the label of the same name, owned by Anders Nordh.
