Following his departure from The Daily Flash, drummer Jon Keliehor (from Seattle) joined former The Kingsmen bassist Kerry Magness (from Seattle/Yakima). The two initially worked as members of Pamela Polland's The Gentle Soul, but were spotted by producer-manager Paul Rothchild, who convinced them to audition for a supergroup he was planning, Rhinoceros. While nothing came out of the auditions, the duo were joined by former Fantastic Zoo and Fogcutter vocalist-guitarist Eric Karl (from New York). In April 1968, in Los Angeles, California, with the addition of keyboardist David Brooks (from Berkeley, CA) and singer-guitarist Steve Lalor (from Seattle, who had been a member of The Daily Flash along with Keliehor) the Popcorn group. The band's initial period of development took place between May and December 1968 in the Bay Area of ​​California, around San Francisco and Oakland. The band moved to Seattle in December 1968, touring the area extensively, then packed up and left for Los Angeles in May 1969.

In 1969, the group changed its name to Bodine and secured a corporate sponsor through MGM Records. While in Los Angeles the band recorded the album "Bodine" between June and July 1969. Produced by Bill Cowsill, "Bodine" stands out as a rather impressive debut. The cover gives the somewhat erroneous impression that this is just another country-rock set. With three of the five members contributing material (Karl was responsible for most of the songwriting), more than half of the material, including "Oakland", "Into my life" and "Easy to see", offered a much heavier rock sound than imaginable, with some beautiful fuzz guitars scattered throughout. Not to mention that the country-rock numbers are also really good. A band like Poco would give anything for something as memorable as "Travelogue" or the beautiful ballad "It's just my way". And from this album is also released the single "Keep lookin' through my window/Easy to see" (MGM K-14088), which was not good in sales.

In September 1969, they returned to the Pacific Northwest again for another tour. In December 1969, management collapsed and the band disbanded.
